Gospel of Luke and John both bring forth women characters. Powell states that "Luke is not a feminist by modern standards and does not envision a complete restoring of society gender roles" (Powell, 94). Do these gospels bring forth issues of gender roles, and how can Jesus be used by feminist to further thier agenda?

The Gospel of Luke is the only Gospel to tell the Christmas story (of Jesus' birth). Powell suggests that the Christmas story could have been particularly significant among Greek and Roman audiences, because it relays Jesus as an immortal which is a notion known to Greek and Roman mythology. Is Jesus’ identity as an immortal in the Greco-Roman sense significant today? If not, what is the significance of the Christmas story today?
